Emulation Inspiration

By Gary Stephan
(American, born 1942)
DO This-- Not That, 1983

I love the shpaes in this painting.  The Depth it creates is also awesome.
By Peter Schuyff
(Dutch, born 1958)
Untitled, 1987

This inspires me because it is created with only two colors although they create a fantastic painting because of the contrast and shape they create.

By John DeAndrea
(American, born 1941)
Dying Gaul, 1984

This statue looked so life-like that it was almost creepy.  I was inspired by how the material used to create this statue could look so real.  The idea of one material creating the look of another surface is really intriguing.
By François Boucher
(French, Paris 1703-1770)
Portrait of a Lady, 1760-1770

I love the pastel colors and the light and fragile look that this painting creates.
Carrie Mae Weems (all images below)

The way these images are shown is very cool looking! I love how there are colored squares and then photograph squares scattered within the color ones.

The light, flowyness of the photographs on the fabric were beautiful.  It's just a unique way to showcase the images.

I love how in the 3 photos above, all the images are different although they are all taken at one central place: a table, 3 chairs, and one light above.  It's a cool idea to have all these different activities and emotions and things that are happening in each photo although they are all happening in one place.  It just shows how much impact one place may have.

Inspiration for Found Film Creative Exercise

These are my two inspirational pieces for the found film creative exercise.  I am making a dress out of film negatives and contact sheet strips.  These dresses really give me structural ideas on how I should put the dress together.  I also just find these so awesome! It's amazing how beautiful of a thing you can make with simple film negatives and fabric.

Final Project

Dark
This photo is dark in the sense that it's dark thoughts.  Over dosing on medication is what this picture is meant to show.

Dark
This picture is meant to also be dark thoughts.  This is the picture that follows up the one of the medication because the view of this is through the persons eyes after they have taken all the medication.  Their vision is blurred and they are laying on the floor looking at the bottle.

Dark
This picture is literally meant to represent the dark.

Ethereal/Transparent
This could be either ethereal or transparent because they are both other worldly words.  This represents ethereal because it looks light, airy, and heavenly.  It is transparent because of the rays of light that is in the picture.  Also this is meant to show the girl as transparent and slowly fading away.  Connects with the medication pictures; this is what happens after the other two.

My Favorite Tasya Van Ree Photos (Independent Project)

This by far is my favorite photo of hers.  I love how it set in front of an every day household appliance, although she still brings the provocative aspect to the image through the legs in the heels.

I like this one because of the light/dark contrast between the girl and the wall.  I also love the emotion it captures of the girl.

I love the intensity of this picture.  Its an awkward position in a weird location although the girl still looks provocative and intense and I feel like she is just staring right through me and it makes me want to keep looking at the picture.

The light/dark contrast in this image is very interesting.  It makes the image look like there are two stories, one in the light side and one in the dark.  I also get a creepy feeling by how the girl is hiding and just one of her eyes are peering through the glass.  I wonder, what is she looking at?

I love the location of this picture.  It's so interesting and once again I love the intensity of the girl.  She looks very exposed to the outside world here, and it makes me think that she is just watching the world around her.

Independent Project: Another's Work

For my second independent project I chose to do another's work.  The photographer I chose is Tasya Van Ree.  Her work is meant to be provocative, dark, romantic, intimate, and she really tries to capture the essence of what she is photographing.  I love her work because of what she tries to bring out in them.  I love the darker aspects of them and the contrast.  I also love the intimacy and provocativeness to them.  Here is a link to her blog if you would like to check out all of her work and read more about her.  http://tasyavanree.com/
